Ford

Ford reports wholesale units — vehicles shipped to dealers, not retail sales — in thousands. Every figure here is converted to vehicles. FY2005–FY2010 include the later-divested Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin and Volvo brands, so the series is not like-for-like throughout.

  2. · 2015-2020 decline also reflects strategic exits: South America manufacturing (2019-21), most Russia operations (2019/2022), India manufacturing (2021-22), and discontinuation of most North American sedans (2018-20) — not solely demand weakness.

  1. 1 Disclosure format change (FY2023 10-K onward): Ford dropped North America/South America/Europe/Asia Pacific regional subtotals and several countries in favor of a flatter "top markets + Other Markets" list; 2023-2025 genuinely cannot be broken into the old regional structure from the 10-K alone.
  2. 2 "China" includes Taiwan from the FY2019 10-K onward; earlier years may exclude Taiwan.
  3. 3 Ford's own regional subtotals do not always equal the sum of listed countries beneath them (they include additional small markets not separately disclosed).
  4. 4 India shows 0/"—" for 2022 onward (Ford exited Indian vehicle manufacturing 2021-22).
  5. 5 "Wholesale units" = vehicles shipped to dealers/others (Ford's revenue-recognition point); differs from "retail sales" (dealer-to-end-customer), which Ford discloses separately for market-share purposes only.
  6. 6 2007-2010 country/Asia-Pacific-Africa sub-detail is sourced from the FY2011/FY2012 10-Ks' retrospective 5-year Item 1 tables, not each year's own original 10-K — the original 2007-2010 filings disclosed wholesales at the region level in Item 7 (MD&A) rather than country level in Item 1. Where the two vintages imply a different regional total for the same year (e.g. 2008 Asia Pacific & Africa: 464 in the FY2008 10-K's own MD&A vs. 532 shown retrospectively in the FY2011/2012 10-Ks), the region-level figure used for "Total Company" reconciliation in this workbook is each year's own original MD&A figure; the country-level rows are supplementary detail from the later filings and may not sum exactly to it.
  7. 7 2005-2010 "Total Company" includes brands Ford owned and later divested (Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin, Volvo) for the years/stub-periods it owned them — see the "Sales by Vehicle Type" tab for the brand-level breakdown and exact divestiture dates. This makes 2005-2010 not directly comparable to 2011-2025 on a like-for-like brand-perimeter basis; a "core Ford/Lincoln/Mercury only" alternative total is provided on that tab.
  8. 8 Mercury brand was discontinued in North America in 2011; regional figures for 2005-2011 include Mercury-brand units within their region (Ford does not break Mercury out separately in the regional tables).

Ford Motor Company, Form 10-K — Item 1 wholesales from FY2011, Item 7 (MD&A) before; 2007–2010 country detail from the FY2011/FY2012 10-Ks' retrospective tables

  1. · By 2011, Mercury was discontinued and Jaguar/Land Rover/Aston Martin/Volvo were fully divested, leaving Ford with a single Ford/Lincoln brand portfolio.
  2. · FY2011-2017: reportable segments were geographic (Ford North America/South America/Europe/Middle East & Africa/Asia Pacific) — see the "Sales by Region" tab.
  3. · FY2018-2022: Ford collapsed to a single combined "Automotive" reportable segment (plus Mobility and Ford Credit) — no product-type or brand split disclosed at all for this decade.
  4. · No 10-K in FY2011-2020 tabulates a company-wide EV/ICE, car/truck/SUV, or Ford-vs-Lincoln wholesale-unit split on a consistent basis.
  5. · Minor restatements observed between filings (illustrative, not exhaustive): Ford Blue 2023 EBIT was $7,462M in the FY2023 10-K vs. $7,453M as restated in the FY2025 10-K; Ford Model e 2023 EBIT was $(4,701)M in the FY2023 10-K vs. $(4,778)M as restated from the FY2024 10-K onward. Figures above use each year's own (first-reported/recast-for-comparability) 10-K.

Ford Motor Company, Form 10-K

Methodology

Primary-source rule: each fiscal year's headline figures are drawn from that year's own Form 10-K (the "as first reported" or, where noted, the first recast-for-comparability disclosure). Where a later 10-K shows a different comparative figure for the same year, this is a genuine Ford restatement/reclassification, not a compilation error.

"Wholesale units": Ford's own defined metric — vehicles shipped to dealerships or others (the point at which Ford generally recognizes revenue), including medium/heavy trucks, all Ford- and Lincoln-badged units whether produced by Ford or an unconsolidated affiliate, units built for other manufacturers, and (in China) JMC-brand production. Differs from "retail sales" (dealer-to-consumer) and "industry volume"/"market share," reported separately by Ford for competitive-positioning purposes, not revenue.

Company brand/segment perimeter changed materially across this 21-year span: (1) FY2005-2006 — Ford Group included Ford/Lincoln/Mercury core regions plus "PAG" (Jaguar+Land Rover+Aston Martin+Volvo combined); (2) FY2007-2010 — PAG split into "Volvo" and "Jaguar Land Rover and Aston Martin" as Ford divested each (Aston Martin Mar-2007, Jaguar/Land Rover Jun-2008, Volvo Aug-2010); (3) FY2011-2017 — Ford/Lincoln (Mercury discontinued 2011) with geographic operating segments; (4) FY2018-2022 — collapsed to a single combined "Automotive" segment; (5) FY2023-present — Ford Blue/Ford Model e/Ford Pro (business-model/vehicle-type based).

Item 1's regional "Wholesales" table (used for the "Sales by Region" tab) is a disclosure separate from segment financial reporting. Its exact format also changed more than once: pre-2011 filings mostly present regional (not country-level) wholesale detail in Item 7 MD&A; FY2011-2022 present a detailed country/region table in Item 1; FY2023 onward simplify to a flatter top-market list (see Region tab notes).

All figures in thousands of units unless noted; revenue and EBIT in millions of US dollars. FY2015-2025 Total Company figures were cross-validated across 2-3 overlapping filings per year (each 10-K shows a trailing 3-year table) and were fully consistent. FY2005-2014 Total Company figures were validated by reconciling each year's own MD&A segment table (all segments, including then-owned Volvo/Jaguar/Land Rover/Aston Martin, sum exactly to the reported Automotive-sector wholesale total).
